As much practice as we have had this year dealing with uncertainty, each new & different wave that hits us could be the one that sweeps us off our feet. That is why we need to practice, practice, practice! We need to practice "relaxing in the midst of chaos" (Rena Chodron). ESPECIALLY in the midst of chaos relaxing & restoring is so important! Yoga teaches us to be Resilient! We actively strengthen with Asanas such as Warrior poses to fight for the truth. We encourage softness and change with Asanas to bring flexibility. We allow for rest in Restorative poses and Savasana. Each component builds our Resilience so that in times of uncertainty, unrest & turmoil we can learn not to panic & find a spiritual path of peace for ourselves and others.
In his book, How to Relax, Thich Nhat Hanh states about Healing, "We human beings have lost confidence in the body just knowing what to do. .... Mindful breathing helps us to relearn the art of resting. Mindful breathing is like a loving parent cradling a baby, saying, Don't worry I'll take good care of you; just rest. "
He further offers a simple poem to use for a mini-rest. "To bring your back to your true home instead of taking you away from it.
Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know I am breathing out.
